Beginners Program
The Mitcham Thunder Beginners Program made possible by the generosity of

Two sessions each Saturday during school terms.
8.15am - 9.00am (absolute beginners)
9.00am - 9.45am (those with a little more understanding)
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR TERM FOUR
At Mitcham Thunder, we believe that YOU, the parent, should not have to spend your hard earned money buying equipment and uniforms only to find out that your child doesn’t like a sport.
That’s why we work hard fundraising so we can put on a Special Squad clinic that doesn’t impact you financially.
We do ask you to pay $10 per term (less than $1 per week) to reserve your place, but when your child eventually enrolls to play in a team, any money you have spent on registration for our beginners program is discounted from your first season. So ultimately, it’s free.
How can we do it? The good people at Mitcham Dental love this initiative and are our major sponsor, and Rangeview Primary School also provide us with the venue free of charge.
The 8.15 session is best suited for those who are quite young and don’t yet understand the concept of basketball as a game. We teach kids to dribble, shoot etc.
The 9.00 session is for those a little older and wiser. We still teach the skills, but also incorporate mini games to help them learn the rules of basketball.
Mitcham Thunder’s Junior Basketball Program offers a progressive path for all children aged 5-9 to learn and play basketball.
Sessions are held Saturday mornings at Rangeview Primary School during school terms so come along and join in with the delightful coach Ada and under the watchful eye of President Chris
Our beginners program combines skills and training designed to help children learn the basics of dribbling, passing and shooting the ball, whilst also learning what it means to be part of a team.
So, come down and have a try, you won’t be disappointed.
